Transport
There are good road links with the A14, M11 and A1.
There are bus services to local towns and villages and into Cambridge. The bus stop is not far from the barn.
The nearest airport is Stanstead, but there are also good connections to London Gatwick, London Heathrow and Luton airports.
The maze, scheduled as an ancient monument, is one of only eight such turf mazes still surviving in England. It was made in 1660 by William Sparrow, a Royalist in Cromwell County, to commemorate the Restoration of Charles II to the Throne.
Hilton is a conservation village dating back to medieval times. It has several ponds, a ford, medieval church, a turf maze, riding stables, Post Office and shop and pub. At its heart stands the village green.
Hilton Green extends for 27 acres providing locals and visitors with a wonderful area to walk and play. This common land is used by children, as the village cricket field and for the village feast week and sports day in July. Overlooking the green are some wonderful houses dating from the fifteenth to the nineteenth century.
As well as the fine buildings surrounding The Green, Hilton also possess other historic houses including Hilton Hourse and Hilton Hall, which was home to members of the Bloomsbury Group.
College Farm is one of the oldest surviving houses in Hilton built in the fifteenth century and with remains of its original moat. It was acquired by St. John's College, Cambridge, in 1529, and remained in their possession until 1961. In the sixteenth century scholars reserved the right to retreat to the farm should the plague become too dangerous in Cambridge.
